As people age, dental care can go by the wayside. Often there are other medical concerns at the forefront of their minds and dental health is forgotten. However, dental care is just as important for seniors as it is for dental patients of any other age. Weak, loose, or missing teeth can cause issues and require the need for dentures or soft foods. Enjoying all that life has to offer means keeping up with proper oral care.   According to the American Dental Association, dry mouth is one of the most common issues experienced by seniors, which leads to cavities. Dry mouth is only one of the issues that seniors can experience when it comes to their oral health. Leaving teeth unattended can also cause serious problems like gum disease and tooth loss.   Whether you’re caring for partial dentures or a full set of teeth, protecting your smile is of the utmost importance. Sunrise Dental has a few tips to help you do just that:
  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Use an electric toothbrush if you have mobility issues.
  • Floss once a day.
  • Utilize a mouthwash daily.
  • Schedule regular dental checkups.
  • Drink lots of water to avoid dry mouth.
Maintain your teeth so that you can chew, speak, and smile without difficulty by following the tips above. If you have any questions or dental concerns, be sure to contact the team at Sunrise Dental. Whether you’ve been experiencing specific issues, or you would like to schedule your regular dental cleaning and checkup, our team is here to help.   We’re happy to help patients throughout Chapel Hill, NC; Durham, NC; Raleigh, NC; Cary, NC; and the surrounding areas. Call us today to schedule an appointment!
