August 1, 2016RALEIGH, NC – Sunrise Dental, an elite dental provider in central North Carolina, has new technology at its Raleigh dental office to give patients durable permanent crowns in one visit.
The staff of Sunrise Dental recently implemented the revolutionary CEREC machine that uses CAD/CAM technology capable of designing and fabricating crowns, bridges and dental implant restorations in a single appointment. Dr. Dinah Vice, who operates Sunrise Dental, said the CEREC machine eliminates the need for temporary restorations and allows patients to spend less time in the office.
“By far the biggest advantage of our CEREC technology is that patients don’t have to wear an uncomfortable or ill-fitting temporary crown,” Dr. Vice said. “Some dental offices take weeks or even a few months to fabricate a permanent crown, and our CEREC machine allows us to do it in about 90 minutes.”
Using CEREC, Dr. Vice’s office can take a digital impression and then fabricate the all-ceramic crown with a special milling machine. The milling machine cuts out the need for an off-site dental laboratory. The digital impression also ensures that the patient will have a great-fitting restoration.
Most dental offices will place dental crowns or bridges over the course of two or three dental visits. Dr. Vice said patients find comfort in knowing that Sunrise Dental can now handle the same procedure in one day.
“Placing dental crowns is a basic procedure that helps us restore the function of the tooth, and we wanted to simplify this process for patients,” Dr. Vice said. “With the help of CEREC, we can reduce the patient’s treatment time and also settle any nerves they have about needing a crown.”
Sunrise Dental locations are in Chapel Hill, Cary, Raleigh and Durham and each office has at least two doctors who provide timely, comprehensive care to patients of all ages. Dr. Vice started Sunrise Dental in 1985 and has eight associates. The dental team at Sunrise Dental is trained in preventive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, restorative dentistry, root canal therapy, gum disease treatment, Invisalign, dental implants, TMJ and headache relief and sleep apnea treatments.
The staff of Sunrise Dental is focused on using technology to achieve precise and aesthetic results. The practice uses a cone beam computed tomography scanner to diagnose dental problems and to plan out restorative and cosmetic treatments. The scanner provides 3-D images of the teeth, jawbone and oral cavity, and even exposes the tiny vessels and nerves.
One of the biggest advantages of the CBCT is that it can be used in planning and placing dental implants. Dental implants and mini dental implants nearly mimic the power of natural teeth and can be restored with individual crowns or dentures.
Dr. Vice has worked in dentistry for more than 30 years. She got interested in dentistry because she struggled with crooked teeth as a child. She entered the dental hygiene program at Ohio State University in 1970 and started working professionally in 1972. She later earned her dental degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1984. After dental school, Dr. Vice decided to stay in Chapel Hill and opened up the first Sunrise Dental location in 1985.
Two of Dr. Vice’s children, Dr. Dirk Vice and Dr. Esther Vice-Hanson, are associates at Sunrise Dental.
