Why might I need to have a tooth removed?

There are multiple reasons you may need to have a tooth removed. We may recommend an extraction if you have:

  • a tooth with structural damage that cannot be repaired
  • an infected tooth that is dying and is unable to be saved
  • bone deterioration and loose teeth due to periodontal disease
  • orthodontic problems that may be solved by removing a tooth to create more space
  • a wisdom tooth that is impacted or causing other problems

We work hard to save any tooth that is able to be repaired and salvaged. However, in the case that you have a tooth that cannot be saved, we offer expert extraction services. Read on to learn more about the extraction process and how we can help you stay comfortable.

1What is the extraction procedure like?
The routine tooth extraction process is fairly simple. We first make sure the area is numb using a local anesthetic. After we are sure you cannot feel pain, we will gently loosen the tooth using specialized tools. We will then remove the tooth from the mouth using forceps. For more complicated cases (such as an impacted wisdom teeth extraction), surgical methods may be necessary. In any case, we will work gently and skillfully to complete the task at hand.
2How can the dentists at Sunrise Dental help me stay comfortable throughout the procedure?
For all of our tooth extraction procedures, we use a local anesthetic to make sure the area is numb before beginning. If you need additional peace of mind, we also offer dental sedation. Our two levels of dental sedation, nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation, can help you feel even more at ease during the procedure.
