You Can Stay Relaxed During Dental Care

August 29, 2016Our own Dr. Vice has worked in dentistry in one way or another for more than 40 years, and she is still amazed by some of the things that she has seen Invisalign do.
You would think that an experienced dental professional might become less impressed by any particular treatment, and yet, Invisalign keeps impressing her.
It impresses the rest of our Sunrise Dental team, too, but more importantly, it has impressed a number of our patients over the years.
It’s impossible to recount every individual patient’s experience with this remarkable treatment, but we do want to give you an idea of what Invisalign can do.
If you are interested in learning if Invisalign can straighten your teeth, it’s time to call one of our dentists. We have offices in Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill.
Pause For Your Big Event
Dr. Vice recalled recently how Invisalign made a difference for a patient who was getting married.
This particular patient had not quite finished her treatment when her wedding day arrived.
As part of your Invisalign treatment, patients have white buttons on their teeth. (This helps to keep the aligners in position.)
For the wedding and Honeymoon, we were able to remove the buttons. When she returned, we reattached the button, and she completed her treatment.
Now, imagine trying that with braces.
You would have a hard time convincing your dentist or orthodontist to remove your braces for a few days. In truth, you probably wouldn’t be able to convince him or her to do it.
But if you did, somehow, it’s unlikely that you would want to put those braces back on when you returned from your trip.
Braces work, but no one is going to tell you that they are comfortable or convenient to wear. Those happen to be two reasons many patients choose Invisalign over traditional braces.
Changing Your Smile
Living with crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth can be uncomfortable for some people. We know that many of our adult patients sought treatment with Invisalign because they wanted to feel more confident about their smiles.
For years, they had been self-conscious about their teeth. This made many of them want to hide their teeth, which meant they tried to avoid smiling whenever possible. Many of them would use their hand or a napkin to hide their teeth when they spoke.
This also made navigating social and professional situations tricky or uncomfortable.
Addressing Your Issues
If you visit one of our dentists, we can identify specific places where your teeth are not aligned perfectly. In reality, you probably already know those things.
You see your teeth every day in your mirror. You know if there is something that you don’t like about your smile. You know what you would like to change.
This is the real reason many patients come to talk to us about Invisalign. They know what they want to change, and the want to know if Invisalign can make those changes happen.
In most cases, the answer is yes. Invisalign may not work on the most severe alignment cases, but you may be surprised if you do so research online to see before and after photos of Invisalign patients’ teeth.
To get specific, Invisalign can be used to close gaps between teeth, to straighten crooked teeth, and to put more uniform space between crowded teeth.
In some cases, it may be necessary to remove a tooth or two to create the necessary space to realign your remaining teeth.
Invisalign also can improve bite problems.
Overbites are when the upper teeth hang over your bottom teeth when you close your mouth. Underbites are the opposite, which is when your bottom teeth stick out farther than your top row of teeth.
Crossbites occur when you top and bottom teeth overlap one another, and open bites are when your teeth do not touch when you close your mouth completely.
Learn More Before You Begin
It’s time. If you are an adult who has been thinking about orthodontic care, it may be time to call a professional.
We can understand why braces may make you hesitant to move forward with your treatment. You may want straighter teeth, but you may not want to wear metal braces and wires on your teeth for two years or so.
With Invisalign from Sunrise Dental, you may be able to straighten your smile with plastic aligners that are practically invisible when you wear them. This can make your treatment discreet but still effective.
If you are interested in becoming the next patient to find out what Invisalign can do for you, call one of our offices near The Research Triangle or fill out our online form to make your initial appointment.
