Having straight teeth makes a big difference in your smile. When your teeth are aligned, it can help you feel more comfortable when other people see your teeth. It also can affect how confident you are in social and professional situations. This may be more apparent when you are surrounded by people with perfectly straight teeth. This may make you more self-conscious about the way your teeth are different. If you would like to change that, we have two ways to make your teeth look straighter at any Sunrise Dental location. Our dentists have helped many patients in and around Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill. We would like the opportunity to help you, too. Alignment Issues As we noted above having misaligned teeth can make some people feel quite aware of how their smiles are different than other people. It’s important to keep in mind that it’s rare for anyone to have teeth that are perfectly straight when they erupt. Almost everyone you meet who has straight teeth has gone through some kind of orthodontic or cosmetic treatment. These can be used to correct a range of issues. You can get crooked teeth to look vertical in your mouth. You can move crowded teeth so they are more evenly spaced, and you can close the gaps between your teeth. You may have more than one of these issues, but they can be addressed at the same time with either Invisalign or veneers. Why You Might Consider Invisalign Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment, which means it will physically move your teeth so they are aligned in different positions in your mouth. Patients with mild or moderate alignment issues are good candidates for Invisalign. Many orthodontic patients fall in this category. Invisalign can accomplish what braces can by using a different approach. Rather than pushing and pulling your teeth with a series of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses aligners to give your teeth a push in the right direction. Each aligner is made of a transparent plastic that makes it virtually invisible when it is placed over your teeth. Many patients appreciate this since it helps them feel more comfortable wearing the aligners to work, in social settings, or out and about. To get them most out of your Invisalign treatment, you just need to wear the aligners for 22 hours per day and change the aligners every few weeks as needed. A typical treatment lasts about a year. At the end, you will have the straight teeth you like, so your smile will look nice. But that’s not the only benefit. Straight teeth often are easier to brush and floss, which can help you keep your new smile and your mouth healthier, too. Whether you are an adult or a teenager, Invisalign can be a good option for realigning your teeth. It’s more discreet than braces and usually takes less time than traditional braces to complete your treatment. Why You Might Consider Veneers From an aesthetic standpoint, veneers can give you the perfectly straight, evenly-spaced smile that you are seeking. The different between veneers and Invisalign is that veneers do not move your teeth. Instead, veneers are like a shell that is used to cover your teeth. This shell changes the appearance of your teeth without moving them. If your main focus is the cosmetic improvement of your smile, then veneers can help you accomplish this goal in a matter of weeks. To get veneers, we make an impression of your teeth. In some cases, we may have to remove a thin portion of enamel first. Once we have the impression, we send it to a lab, which uses it to create a custom-designed set of veneers. Each set of veneers is made to give the user the appearance of the smile they want to have. When they are ready, you will return to our office, where one of our dentists will bond your veneers to your teeth. You may be surprised how different your smile can look. We have focused on the way veneers can address alignment issues, they also can be used to make your teeth look whiter and to fix teeth that are chipped or have become worn down. If your primary concern is changing the appearance of your smile in as little time as possible, then veneers may be your best option. Find The Right Option For You We just touched on the different ways you can straighten your teeth at any of our dentist offices near The Triangle. To find out more about Invisalign or veneers, we welcome you to schedule a consultation at any Sunrise Dental. We can give you a more detailed understanding of both of these treatments. It’s also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about each. To make your appointment, call or use our online form. If you contact us today, you could get started on your new smile soon.
